Delegates to Kentucky Boys State should be prepared to attend the program. There is a short brochure that gives some ideas on what is expected during the week. Please find below a list of items to bring to the session.  Students wear khaki shorts and pants, blue jeans and appropriate shoes for walking to events and sessions.  There are facilities onsite to wash clothing, and communication can be done through personal mobile phones or the computer lab. Although three meals are provided every day, there is a concession stand, KBS products for sale such as an Alumni Shirt, and other expenses that may come up. We do send staff out to buy missing or needed items, so having some spending money would be beneficial just in case.

Participants can prepare in advance by reading the Kentucky State Constitution along with a review of the Federal Constitution and other civic and leadership literature. The section below will expand in the coming years, so please take the time to review these resources, and recommended any that may help others to prepare. In addition, it is important to note that one person will be selected to receive a Samsung Scholarship from Kentucky and two people will be  selected to attend Boys Nations, which is an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington D.C. for a week of leadership with 100 other Boys State participants from across the United States.

Participants will be issued two (2) KBS T-shirts along with one (1) dress KBS Polo shirt. While not required, it is recommended that participants review the shirts sold on this site to purchase extras for use during the week, along with a graduation KBS Alumni Shirt and a KBS Pride Shirt. There are package deals for purchases, and pre-orders will be delivered at KBS saving shipping and handling! Check out these shirts and deals!

Below are some resources that can help a participant prepare for the program. If you have any ideas on what can be added to better prepare our participants, please drop the KBS Staff a message or call! We valuable any feedback that can make our program stronger!

If there are any questions, please feel free to contact the KBS Staff at any time.

Thank you for being a part of Kentucky Boys State! This is truly a week that will change a lifetime!
